Round River Staff

Will Tyson

Community Programs Director

Will is a cultural ecologist with a multidisciplinary background that includes ecological research,   community-based programming, and conservation planning. His work focuses on projects that combine western science and Indigenous Knowledge to further the stewardship of large landscapes and the people they support. Since joining Round River in 2010, Will has worked in several study areas, developing and contributing to projects that include large-scale conservation planning efforts, Indigenous Knowledge research and documentation, climate change adaptation, ecological research and monitoring, and traditional foods security and on-the-land programming.

Will currently serves as Community Programs Director, where he works to ensure that Round River’s technical support best meets the needs and visions of partner communities. This includes leading Indigenous Knowledge research and community engagement efforts, collaborating on field program design and implementation, and facilitating exchanges between scientists, land-users, and students to inform on-the-ground stewardship.

Will holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria, where he was a member of the Arctic Landscape Ecology Lab. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies from Colby College. Will was also a student on Round River’s 2007 Taku Program.
