Field Days

Most days will be spent in the field, collecting data for various ongoing conservation projects. A “typical” field day involves:

  • Rising early
  • Cooking breakfast together
  • Spending most of the day conducting fieldwork
  • Having an hour or so of downtime before dinner
  • Cooking dinner together
  • Engaging in discussions or reading around the fire

Camp Days

Other days will be more relaxed. A “typical” camp day includes:

  • Meeting as a group in the morning for lectures, activities, and discussions
  • Preparing the next field excursion – preparing meal plans, gear lists, and organizing and packing
  • Time off for reading, running, relaxing
  • Eating dinner with a visiting researcher or community member
Though our programs are rigorous, our program leaders ensure that students enjoy a balance between work and play, with time for both individual and group activities.
Round River sets itself apart by immersing students in hands-on conservation work that directly contributes to real-world projects. Our small group sizes, remote field locations, and strong partnerships with local communities offer an unparalleled, immersive experience abroad. We emphasize a deep connection to place and a direct impact on conservation outcomes.
