Doug is a seasoned field biologist who began his career in 1994, focusing on management and research projects across the Western United States. In 2000, he joined Round River and subsequently served as Director of the Student Programs from 2003 to 2023.
Under Doug’s leadership, the Student Programs at Round River evolved significantly, expanding from a single-semester offering to programs spanning nine countries. These initiatives emphasize applied conservation, collaborative community engagement, ecological literacy, and field ecology. The programs continue to provide vital scientific support and on-the-ground service to Round River’s local and Indigenous partners worldwide, inspiring a growing community of trained conservationists.
Doug’s dedication to effective leadership led to his appointment as Interim Executive Director in fall 2023, followed by assuming the role of Executive Director in spring 2024.
Doug holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Wyoming.
